Yes. I carry. On my person. Today, I was wearing my 1911 then changed it to my CZ when I went to a different store. I also had my last ditch knife on. AND my cell phone. My weapons are defensive weapons, not offensive. Both can be taken away from me by the aggressor. I am fully aware of that.

Security is a state of mind. Security is protection. Security is not about the physical weapons you carry. It is about being aware of your surroundings. It is about not panicking or being the hero when the person in front of you at the bank pulls a hand-cannon out and aims it at the teller. It is about NOT putting yourself in a situation where you might actually NEED your physical weapon(s).  You protect yourself & your family by being alert. Pay attention to those around you. Avoid confrontation. Stay calm. Don’t panic. Stay alive.

The other weekend we were at Wal-Mart. I was not carrying any firearms. I was wearing a sundress because it was HOT and really did not feel like carrying. My guy had his on though. I broke Rule #1: I was not paying attention to my surroundings. I was pushing the cart & reading my receipt and walked right into the middle of an altercation. My first thought was not “why did I leave my gun home bc I want a piece of this action” it was more “you fucking idiot. PAY ATTENTION!”

At that point my guy pulled me by the back of my dress.  I heard the snap release on his holster. Did he pull his firearm out? No. He did not. But he was ready in case the two guys turned their attention on us. I know that my guy would not draw his firearm unless he absolutely had to. However, he was probably at DEFCON 2 in his mind. Imagine my surprise when the two fellas I walked into both apologized to me for getting in my way. We walked away and they continued their argument.

That was an avoidable situation. I should have been paying attention.

I carry too and feel lost when it's not on my person or in my purse. I agree with you the end of the day it is all about being aware of your surroundings...not if you have a weapon or not. It is a shame cell phones have become a muggers best friend. I see so many people walking and texting not paying attention....I just want to walk up to them and smack them upside their head to prove my point
